2 Year Focusing-Oriented Therapy Training

The first year offers students an in-depth experience of deepening the practice of Focusing for themselves and their own process. We explore various ways of listening deeply to another and guiding the other to attune to their own experiential process. Towards the end of the first year we move further into the relational aspects of focusing, and in the second year we begin to explore how to integrate focusing into our work with others, in a variety of therapeutic settings.
To further integrate focusing into our work context, we prepare students to offer an Introduction to Focusing workshop to a group of their choice by the end of the 2nd year. Students must commit to following both years, regardless of their level of focusing experience.
The cost of the course is 3500 pounds for the 2 years. This can be paid fully 2 years in advanced at a reduced rate of 3100 pounds, or 1750 pounds at the start of each year. This does not include the individual supervision sessions or the TIFI certification fee. Please contact us if you require a different payment plan that would allow you to participate.
- Who is this course for? Anyone who is working with others in different contexts, coaches, mentors, teachers, body workers, therapists, healthcare workers, activists…
- What are the entrance requirements ?
We require you to have undertaken a weekend introductory workshop either with ourselves or from another approved focusing trainer. - Are there a maximum number of participants? Yes, we keep the group size to around 20-25 students.
- Are there additional costs? Students are required to attend 12 supervisions from the second year onwards ( which may be completed up to 18 months after the course ends). These are offered by the team and an international group of invited supervisors at reduced student rate of £80 per session.
- Will I be at a disadvantage if English is not my first language? In the past we have had students from different countries with different language backgrounds, since all of the teaching is in English a basic level of English is required. Focusing privileges your own articulation.
- What is the balance between academic work and practice work? By its very nature, focusing is best learnt and understood in an experiential way. The training is therefore highly experiential but also includes reading of theoretical and practical papers for discussion as well as various videos of theory and practice. There are no academic, written requirements but we do ask for a written self-assessment at the end of year one and a write-up of each group’s teaching project at the end of the course.
