The body knows things the mind would never guess. Focusing is a practice for listening to that knowing.

This two-day introduction to Focusing is designed for coaches, and is open to anyone else whose work involves helping people find clarity from within. It’s for those wanting to explore Focusing as a personal practice, and discover ways to bring it into their work with others.

What is Focusing?

Focusing is a gentle, embodied practice that helps you listen to your own body’s implicit knowing. By turning our attention inward with curiosity and respect, we learn to identify a felt sense—a bodily sense of a situation that is more than thoughts or emotions alone. We stay with this felt sense until something begins to come into focus, something shifts, and a new way forward reveals itself.

Focusing supports emotional clarity, self-regulation, and meaningful change. It deepens the quality of our presence, enhances attunement to clients and oneself, and offers a reliable way to work with what is not yet clear but already alive in the body.

How does Focusing help us support others?

Whether you’re coaching, working therapeutically, or guiding a meditation practice, you’ll recognise the moments where a client is on the edge of something – a felt sense that hasn’t yet become language, an emotion that doesn’t quite fit any label, a body sensation that seems significant but elusive. Focusing gives us a framework and a practice for recognising and staying with those moments. Rather than moving past something unclear, or filling a silence, we learn to support the conditions where a client’s implicit knowing can surface and offer its gift.
